Quiet Side of Health: End of Life Care and Advocacy

Join us for an ongoing education presentation for community members and Community Health Workers. We’ll be discussing the infrequently talked about but ever-present aspects of healthcare. For the month of August, we’ll be discussing end of life care and advocacy. The focus is to teach CHWs about compassionate end-of-life care and the Death Positive movement and explore the role of death doulas in how they allow the dying person to make choices based on what they consider a good death. Examples of topics are providing practical support to individuals and their families during the sacred journey of dying from navigating difficult conversations to fostering a peaceful transition and ensuring end of life wishes are followed through. Our speaker for the event is Becky Shumake, Senior Director of Palliative Care at Community Healthcare of Texas.
